The International Opticians Association (IOA), is calling for entries to its annual Silmo IOA International Optician of the Year Award.
The new award, first given at the 2018 Silmo d’Or Awards, recognises the importance of the optician in the optical business and their role in the choice of optimum products for their clientele.
IOA president, Fiona Anderson, said: “The Silmo IOA Optician of the Year is a professional who embodies the attributes of a skilled optician who is passionate about their craft. They are outstanding in their field and inspire others to be the very best they can be. Their reputation will precede them and they will be a true beacon in the optical sector.”
The inaugural recipient in 2018 was Robert Grimard, a graduate of the École des opticiens d’ordonnances du Québec.
Country and individual members of the IOA and industry partners may nominate opticians worldwide. Nominees will be contacted and asked to fill in a dossier, which will be scrutinised by a jury made up of hand-picked industry experts. A shortlist of up to four people will be established and the winner will be announced during the Silmo d’Or ceremony in Paris, France. As well as the prestigious award, the winner will also win a trip for two to Silmo 2020.
