The World Council of Optometry (WCO) will hold a webinar on dry eye disease on 14 March.
Led by Professor Lyndon Jones, director of the centre for ocular research and education, University of Waterloo, Canada, it will explore the importance of choosing the right approaches to managing the condition. Professors James Wolffsohn, head of the school of optometry at Aston University, and Jennifer Craig of the department of ophthalmology, University of Auckland, New Zealand, will discuss how to adjust management strategies based on mitigating factors and measurements collected from patients. A question and answer session will follow.
Professor Jones said, “One surprising fact is that 20 to 25 percent of patients that optometrists see suffer from dry eye. My top tip for any practitioner when they’re thinking about dry eye is don’t be scared by it. Many patients have dry eyes, and management is not that complicated.
“The use of education is one of the simplest and most impactful interventions. This webinar is an excellent place to start or further your dry eye management journey.
About 1.4 billion people are affected by dry eye symptoms worldwide, with reports of increased occurrence due to increasing use of technology, environmental triggers, and an ageing population.
