A charity for homeless people has dispensed 74 pairs of spectacles in the first year since launching a centre in Bristol.
Optometrist Tom Boyd (pictured) said: “I started volunteering as soon as it opened, having been inspired by seeing how Vision Care for Homeless People (VCHP) have filled a gap in care for a group of people very much in need.
“My fond memories of volunteering are many including a very high myopic who had not had glasses for six months and was functionally visually impaired. When he picked up his spectacles he was able to get on with his life again.”
Shamir UK donated the lenses and glazing. The firm has supported VCHP clinics since 2011.
A spokesperson said: “We feel that if you are in a position to give back or help then it’s the right thing to do, our slogan is perfect vision, personal touch.”
