As an L&D Specialist being an ABDO member is crucial. I can email or call ABDO and get a prompt and friendly reply. This quick and easy access to professional and clinical guidance is brilliant. Easy access to new and relevant CET is always useful and I enjoy reading Dispensing Optics on my tablet to keep up to date. Access to Ophthalmic Lens Availability and British Standards is invaluable. In short, I would be lost without my ABDO membership.

The membership team are amazing and are always available to help with any queries whether clinical or pastoral. ABDO driving the enhanced services agenda

ABDO has helped drive the DO & CLO inclusive enhanced services agenda to such an extent, that we now have a new career pathway open to us. Having spoken to fellow DOs at an ABDO CET event recently, it was great to hear the enthusiasm of newly qualified members for both the profession and the support that ABDO has given them to date. It is great to see ABDO raising the profile of our profession by being so visible at conferences, events and forums. For too long we have been the “quiet profession” within primary care and now is the time for us to stand up and be recognized for the work we do.

Whether you are a student or a registered optician of many years ABDO continues to evolve and support its members. Who would have thought, back in the 1990s, that it would be providing the means for members to stay registered, that area meetings would allow members to gain CET points. The benefits continue to be updated and made more relevant whether it is access to ISO/BE/EN Standards or cashback on shopping. If things go wrong at work and legal help is required then ABDO is there. If you want to make a difference for ABDO members of today and tomorrow then the new regional structure makes getting involved straight forward.

I cannot imagine not being a member of ABDO

I simply cannot imagine not being a member of ABDO. I joined as a student back in 1983 and I am proud to say, I was in the first cohort of DOs who qualified under ABDO in 1986 and were entitled to use the suffix FBDO. I am proud of my suffix and what it represents and to be an ABDO member today.
