ABDO has appointed Andrew Symons FBDO CL FBCLA as an adviser to the ABDO board.
A contact lens optician and fellow of the British Contact Lens Association, Andrew has more than 25 years’ experience in various senior roles in the optical sector, including with Specsavers and CooperVision.
He has been appointed for a period of one year in the unpaid role, which involves attending and participating in ABDO board meetings. Unlike elected members, Andrew will not have voting privileges.
Andrew said: “I am delighted to have been asked to come in as an advisor to the ABDO board. I very much look forward to working with the board and supporting the wider membership. Together we can continue to grow the valuable contribution to patient care that dispensing opticians deliver every day.”
Commenting on Andrew’s appointment, ABDO president, Daryl Newsome, said: “Andrew is widely respected across the profession, with particular expertise in contact lenses. His considerable commercial experience will complement the wide range of skills and experience that we have among the members of ABDO’s board. It’s great to have him more closely involved in supporting our work on behalf of members.”
