A UK academic is one of three 2022 Contact Lens Educators of the Year.
Dr Carole Maldonado-Codina, senior lecturer in optometry and associate director of Eurolens Research at the University of Manchester, was cited for her work in the Middle East category by the International Association of Contact Lens Educators (IACLE). She joins Dr Lindsay Sicks of the Illinois College of Optometry, Chicago, for the Americas category and Associate Professor Lavanya Kalikivayi of the Ahalia School of Optometry, Kerala, India, for Asia-Pacific.
The travel award went to Asif Iqbal from Sankara Nethralaya in Chennai, India.
IACLE president, Professor Philip Morgan, said: “Receiving these accolades represents a great achievement for our winners.”
Dr Maldonado-Codina said: “It is an honour to join the list of previous IACLE Contact Lens Educator of the Year awardees, many of whom I have admired and been inspired by. It has also been a privilege to be part of the global IACLE community for almost 25 years.
“We are very fortunate to have such a supportive organisation that ‘educates the educators’ and helps us be the best teachers we can be. I look forward to 2022 being the year we can meet up in person, so we can once again connect with and learn from each other at educational events and conferences.”
