Award-winning henna artist, Shagufta Walji
Shagufta Walji is a henna artist as well as a dispensing optician.
She says: “I’ve been a dispensing optician since 1996 and that’s all I’ve known and loved. I ended up being a single mum back in 2015, so I decided to get in touch with my creative side to escape from the world.
“This was a time to find a hobby that brought out my creative flair and I started embarking on a new journey along side my optical profession.”
Shagufta is now an award-winning artist and has been featured in many magazines.
She adds: “I have three children, two of whom are doing their GCSEs. Between them, the henna and locuming I juggle my schedule to fit it all in.
“Henna is very seasonal, and I’m in a fortunate position where I can pick and choose the days I work in optics alongside my passion of henna.”
