Dr Scott Mackie, from Glasgow, has been awarded fellowships by both Optometry Ireland (AOI) and the College of Optometrists.
Dr Mackie, who is a qualified dispensing optician as well as an optometrist, was awarded his first fellowship at the Association for Independent Optometrists and Dispensing Opticians conference at Athlone in November. During the conference, he presented a peer review case study on person-centred eyecare in Scotland. Two days later, he received a fellowship by portfolio at the College of Optometrists’ awards ceremony in London.
Dr Mackie, who has two practices in Lanarkshire, said: “Getting recognition from your peers that you have made a difference for my specialist interest, which is education, is humbling and I was delighted to attend both meetings to collect my fellowship in person”.
Dr Mackie is a fellowship assessor for the College of Optometrists, and said there had been a significant rise in fellowship applications during the pandemic as practitioners reflected on their past and future careers. There are currently 78 fellows listed on the College of Optometrists website.
