With many optical practices closing their doors due to Covid-19, CooperVision has brought forward the launch date of its new eLearning platform, the CooperVision Learning Academy, to support staff training across all areas of contact lens business.
The free-to-access site will host online training courses aimed at developing communication, clinical and technical skills. Eight initial training modules, taking around 10 minutes to complete, include the selection of the right contact lenses for customers, communication tips, contact lens prescribing and aftercare, and improvement of the customer experience in business. Users can create a learning account to help track progress as they work through the modules.
The launch is supported by a digital marketing campaign, entitled ‘Self-isolation? Self-education’, and the Learning Academy is also available to locum practitioners, undergraduate students and pre-registration/trainee clinicians.
Future plans for the site include a webinar training platform, designed to host interactive training (including CET accredited materials) for eyecare practitioners, business owners and support staff.
CooperVision professional services consultant and Learning Academy project manager, Pauline Bradford, who is also a dispensing optician and contact lens optician, said: “Covid-19 is having a significant impact on the industry right now. Whilst we focus on uninterrupted supply of product to customers, we also want to offer additional services in the form of bite-sized, educational material to those in the optical world who may have more time on their hands in the coming weeks.
“It’s always important to develop professionally and even more so now to put this unexpected spare time to good use, for professional development and staff morale. I’m delighted that we can announce the early launch of this learning platform and have been able to open it up to the wider optical community, so everyone has access to valuable training content. We look forward to continuing to develop the site by adding even more courses in the future.”
