Amy Seaman has become the first-ever dispensing optician (DO) to be appointed as a director of the Central LOC (local optical committee) Fund.
She will cover the North East region – replacing Andy McGregor, who has resigned for personal reasons.
An ABDO regional lead for the North of England and Midlands area, Amy is a member of Sheffield LOC, is a minor eye conditions services accredited contact lens optician, an ABDO examiner and former lecturer. She told Dispensing Optics: “The Central LOC Fund has supported some great projects in the past, and I am looking forward to being involved in the process of supporting future projects.
“As I am the first dispensing optician to be given this appointment, this is also exciting for DOs. I would like to encourage all DOs to take a look at the work that the Central LOC Fund undertakes – as many may not even be aware of its existence. They can then consider if the Fund is something they would like to support, either through their practice or their LOC, and indeed if they may benefit from submitting an application for funding towards a project.”
Max Halford, ABDO clinical lead, commented: “We were delighted to hear the news of Amy’s appointment. She has been involved with ABDO for many years across a wide range of our activities – and we are confident that Amy will be a great asset to the Fund, bringing the perspective of a dispensing optician to the important work they do.”
