Can more be done to fight glaucoma? This is the question that will be posed during a Specsavers CPD session to be held on Sunday 25 February at 100% Optical.
Specsavers clinical services director, Giles Edmonds, and director of professional advancement, Paul Morris, will join Professor Anthony King, ophthalmologist and chair of Glaucoma UK, to explore the question: ‘Are we doing everything we can for every glaucoma patient?’ on the main stage between 1-2pm.
The presentation will provide learning outcomes suitable for both dispensing opticians and optometrists, with one interactive CPD point on offer.
“Glaucoma is the most preventable cause of blindness in the UK, provided early detection and treatment is in plac,” said Giles. “With more than 700,000 people in the UK estimated to have glaucoma, approximately half don’t know they have it. We want to end preventable glaucoma sight loss, and we’ll be talking about how Specsavers practical clinical work and partnerships can improve access to care for everyone.”
Paul added: “It is an honour to welcome Professor King to the main stage, who will explain what the charity Glaucoma UK is doing to deliver its vision – an end to preventable sight loss from glaucoma.”
Professor Kind commented: “There have definitely been some positive developments in glaucoma care in the last few years, but there is still much more we can all do to raise awareness and improve the prospects of those most at risk. It is vital that we work together to achieve joined-up, consistent and equitable care across the UK.”
Specsavers is also putting on a programme of CPD suitable for dispensing opticians and optometrists at Stand B210 across the three days of the show.
Sessions will cover contact lenses, using wellness to drive performance, living with low vision, a review of anterior eye cases, and sight and homelessness. Experts will also be on hand to discuss the unlimited opportunities available at Specsavers for optical professionals starting their career, to colleagues gaining additional qualifications, owning their own business, international opportunities and professional support roles.
