The General Optical Council (GOC) has published two new guides relating to its CPD scheme – ‘CPD record review: a guide for registrants‘, and ‘Guide to audit of providers of CPD‘ – to help explain what’s involved.
The guides contain: an introduction to the record review/provider audit process, including why and when it takes place and how registrants/providers will know if they’ve been selected; and an outline of the process, including what will be looked at, potential outcomes, and next steps following receiving these outcomes.
Explaining the reason for the introduction of registrant record review and provider audit, the regulator stated: “[These] were introduced to provide a form of quality assurance that was not required under the previous CET scheme, which required advance approval of CPD providers’ learning events and for providers to allocate points to registrants”.
It continued: “As the CPD scheme is much more flexible – for example, registrants are now required to maintain their own records of CPD completed – registrant record review and provider audit are a proportionate way of quality assuring CPD.”
