The General Optical Council (GOC) has launched a campaign to recruit two council associates, one of which will be a dispensing optician.
The intention is for the two council associates to participate in council meetings and gain valuable experience of how the regulator is run. It will also facilitate a diverse range of perspectives being shared during council discussions. The roles are viewed as developmental opportunities for dispensing opticians and optometrists in the early part of their careers.
Applicants are invited from fully-qualified registrants and the GOC has made a commitment that at least one of the appointees will be a dispensing optician. The role lasts for one year and the successful applicants will receive support from a mentor.
Alistair Bridge, ABDO CEO, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for dispensing opticians to enhance their professional development by bringing their voices to the table during GOC Council meetings and gain an in-depth understanding of how good governance supports the effective running of organisations.”
The deadline for applying for the role is 19 February.
