Holistic approach to low vision

Eyecare professionals are being invited to a two-day virtual interactive event – on 30 and 31 March – encompassing the key touch points that affect people with low vision.

The event is titled, Holistic approach to low vision, and will also showcase the many arms of the Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB) and its sponsors, who are helping people newly diagnosed or living with sight loss to come to terms with their condition and help improve their quality of life.

It is primarily aimed at eyecare professionals, with CET points applied for, though other health professionals are welcome to attend. The idea is to identify low vision patients in the practice, who could be helped by signposting to the right services and/or products at the right time in their sight loss journey.

Areas to be covered by RNIB staff will be:

  • Principles of low vision and complex needs
  • Information on welfare rights
  • Emotional support
  • Legal issues relation to low vision
  • Role of an eye clinic liaison officer
  • Technology showcase

The presenters are:

  • Bill Harvey: Optometrist, lecturer and clinical editor
  • Dr Zahra Jessa: RNIB lead optometrist
  • Louise Gow: RNIB eye health lead
  • Alex Webster: ABDO head of CPD
  • Jayshree Vasani: RNIB sessional dispensing optician
  • Julian Jackson: Director at Visionbridge – and patient’s voice

Course fees are £75 for eyecare professionals and £50 for pre-reg students.

An interactive pack containing some handy gadgets for everyday living will be posted out to delegates after the course has been completed.

Keynote sponsor is Sight & Sound Technology.
