ABDO members are invited to the Association’s stand at 100% Optical in February to talk to president, Daryl Newsome, and vice president Kevin Gutsell.
Daryl will be on Stand B210 from 2-4pm on both Saturday 25 February and Sunday 26 February.
“Come and talk about the structure of ABDO and how to get involved,” said Daryl. “We want to hear what more we could do that would be useful to our members.
“Or if you’re thinking about expanding your clinical skills, come and have a chat about training to become a contact lens optician or provider of minor eye conditions services; I will be happy to share my experiences of both,” Daryl added.
Daryl has also trained multiple members of staff in dispensing and contact lens practice, so those thinking of practice team training can hear first-hand exactly what’s involved.
ABDO vice president Kevin Gutsell will also be available from 10am to 12noon the Saturday and Sunday.
Kevin said: “Whether it’s your first or 21st time visiting a UK optical show, there is always something new and innovative to see and hear. The ABDO stand alone is a must to keep up-to-date with what’s happening as well as plans for the future. ABDO team members will be available throughout the weekend to discuss such topics as CPD, professional development, member benefits, as well as Dispensing Optics and sustainability. Incorporated into the stand will be ABDO College together with the book shop and information and updates on courses.”
Kevin has been an ABDO College distance learning tutor for many years as well as representing the Association in various ways. He is also a member of the General Optical Council Educational Visitor Panel, so any members who would like to know more about the many ways to influence the future – can hear about his experiences.
“I would also really like to hear feedback on the Ophthalmic Lens Availability [OLA] section on the website and how it can be improved,” added Kevin, who serves as OLA editor.
The ABDO CPD team will be running two discussion workshops each day, one on the role of the dispensing optician and another on the management of ptosis.
