Edinburgh Central MSP, Angus Robertson, has opened a new £3m Optical Express eye surgery treatment hub in the city – one of the largest investments the company has made in a single clinic.
The eyecare business plans to carry out cataract surgery and other treatments for the NHS, reducing waiting lists that have grown during the pandemic. It will cater for private patients as well, offering each a free consultation for laser or lens/cataract surgery.
Angus Robertson said: “Increasing access to community healthcare is a priority in Scotland and this new clinic will make an important contribution to that goal.”
Optical Express CEO, David Moulsdale, commented: “As part of our nationwide investment plan, we’re aiming to retain and attract the very best local talent, and are recruiting for a variety of roles, including ophthalmic surgeons, optometrists and clinic managers across the country.”
The clinic will also provide a specialist recycling station for plastic contact lenses and packaging.
