German trade show Opti will launch a new international Sustainability Award for opticians at its 2024 show next January.
Opti director, Cathleen Kabashi, said: “With the Opti Sustainability Award, we are picking up on important developments within the industry and, on the other hand, proving ourselves as a source of inspiration. Today, it is no longer enough to put on a green face. For every single participant in the industry, it’s a matter of doing instead of talking.”
Opti 2024 takes place from 12-14 January in Munich and with the new competition, invites national and international optical practices to present their current sustainability activities and initiatives.
Based on the three pillars of the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations in its Agenda 2030 – social, economic, and ecological – relevant initiatives such as the design of the business premises, relevant approaches to the avoidance of micro plastics, alternative energy supply, climate-neutral behaviour, diversity within the workforce, and more will count towards the competition.
Finalists will present their solutions live at the show in its Sustainability Hub on the Friday of the show, where the winner will be announced.
The entries will be judged by the Association for Sustainability in Ophthalmic Optics, which formed itself for Opti 2022, and the earmarked honorary prize is 500 euros.
The closing date for entries is 15 November 2023.
