Obituary: Deanne Gray

It is with sadness that Dispensing Optics reports the death of Deanne Gray on 26 January.

Deanne was a member of staff at ABDO for more than 20 years, and at the time of her passing was the longest serving member of staff.

Tony Garrett, former general secretary of ABDO, said: “The sad news about the death of Deanne Gray will be keenly felt throughout the ABDO family. Over the years, Deanne was involved with a number of ABDO activities – including as administration manager at Dispensing Optics.

“She served as a key member of the team producing the ABDO graduation and prizegiving ceremony over the past 14 years, and provided administrative support across the Association – attending events such as Optrafair and more recently 100% Optical. Deanne also acted as a receptionist at ABDO College for a number of years.

“Although only part-time throughout her employment, Deanne loved being a part of ABDO and turned her organisational skills to whatever she was asked to do. Her enthusiasm was infectious, and she would invariably confront any problem with her ‘can-do’ approach. Deanne will be missed – and be remembered – by all,” concluded Tony.

Deanne was awarded HonFBDO by the Association in 2015. She leaves behind three daughters and seven grandchildren.
