Optical journalist and PR stalwart, Shelagh Hardy, has passed away at the age of 82.
A statement from Optical World journal read: “We are deeply saddened to record the death of Shelagh Hardy who passed away peacefully in Eastbourne General Hospital on Wednesday 3 July at the age of 82.
“After graduating from Oxford University in 1958 with a degree in English, Shelagh joined the Hatton Press, working under the tutelage of her father WE (Bill) Hardy, who was Master of the Worshipful Company of Spectacle Makers (WCSM) from 1965 to 66.
“For many years, Shelagh was editor of the Optician, a role which she also held for a brief spell in the early 1970s. Shelagh went on to spend her whole life reporting on the world of ophthalmic optics, and was a regular contributor to Optical World for many years. Shelagh will be sadly missed by both friends and colleagues within the industry.
“A service to celebrate Shelagh’s life will be held at Tunbridge Wells Crematorium, Benhall Mill Road, Royal Tunbridge Wells, Kent TN2 5JJ, on Tuesday 6 August at 2.30pm. Friends and colleagues are most welcome to attend.”
