Staff and families at Optical Express have walked 10k for the Beatson cancer charity in Glasgow.
The firm is now doubling the £20,000 the walkers earned. The money will help to support patient wellbeing, clinical research and education as well as practical care and support.
Martin Cawley, chief executive of Beatson, said: “We are totally overwhelmed by the incredible donation of £40,168.53 from the team at Optical Express. With 88 of their workforce taking part in our walking event, along with their friends and families, they have raised an incredible amount for our charity, which will help us to support so many cancer patients and their families.”
Beatson is based at NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde’s Gartnavel Hospital campus, the busiest cancer centre in the UK.
The Optical Express team was the largest group to tackle the walk.
Participant Aimee Ferguson said: “The cause is very close to my heart, as it is to so many of my colleagues who took part. There was something very special about walking with so many people who were all there for the same cause but with their own heartfelt reasons. The sun was shining and we were incredibly proud of ourselves when we finally reached the finish line, knowing the difference the money we raised will make.”
David Moulsdale, chief executive and founder of Optical Express, added: “We are proud to have supported our team in completing the 10km walk for Beatson Cancer Charity. They showed dedication and commitment to the cause, raising over £20,000 and counting, and I am excited to announce that we will be doubling the sum raised by their efforts. Optical Express feels passionately about supporting charitable causes and we hope that the money raised can help patients and their families at a challenging point in their lives.”
