ABDO is calling on everyone across the optical professions and industry to save the date of 3 October 2022 for the second SEE Summit on the Environment.
The event takes place from 7-8.30pm, and will bring together progress on Social, Ethical and Environmental (SEE) issues. Practice owners, eyecare professionals and manufacturers are invited to promote environmental sustainability in the UK optical sector and contribute to the government’s goal of achieving net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.
The event will take place in the run-up to the UN Climate Change Conference 2022 (UNFCCC COP 27) in November and will highlight the importance of environmental sustainability and inspire change by sharing good practice case studies and providing practical advice.
ABDO president, Daryl Newsome, said: “Last year I set out my ambitions for the SEE Summit. I wanted to share, support and collaborate within the optical sector to identify best practice, easiest implementation and manage effective change. We did it! Last year’s SEE summit hosted by ABDO and chaired by Jo Holmes went down really well with all parts of the sector.
“We identified areas within the industry that need attention, we created a sustainability tool to quantify the impact of your actions which is free to access and use and, maybe most importantly, we demonstrated our community’s ability to collaborate on mutual objectives and deliver progress on mutual targets while at the same time reducing our carbon footprint and empowering others to do the same. Working together we work smarter.
“This year we look to have even more eyecare practitioners and organisations taking part, to demonstrate and illustrate new and good practical tips for reducing your practice’s, workshop’s, consulting room’s carbon footprint. And we will do this with an eye to the future and new products and behaviours.”
