Stand up for child eye health for World Sight Day

World Sight Day

World Sight Day on Thursday 10 October will focus the world’s attention on the importance of eye health in young people.

The International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB) invites children around the world to shake the stigma of glasses by flexing their creative muscles in the Glasses of the Future competition. The charity also aims to gather over a million pledges to prioritise child eye health.

IAPB spokesperson Simon Darvill said: “Everyone in the sight sector knows that a simple intervention like glasses can be the difference between a child struggling or thriving at school.

“On World Sight Day we must work together to make sure that everyone knows how important it is for children to get a sight test and the treatment they need.

“Together with over 250 members around the world, IAPB is campaigning for governments to act on accessible and affordable eye care for every child. Each year the support for World Sight Day continues to grow, and our collective voice becomes louder,” Simon added.

IAPB is asking for child eye health screenings around the world to celebrate World Sight Day.

Eyecare organisations are invited to submit a pledge on behalf of their young patients at www.iapb.world/world-sight-day
