Astrophysicist Professor Bob Fosbury will be a guest presenter at the upcoming conference of the Association for Independent Optometrists and Dispensing Opticians (AIO).
Taking place on 7 and 8 October at Chesford Grange, Warwick, the AIO Conference will offer interactive CPD points through a range of lectures on topics such as myopia management, retinal imaging, communication, social media, gene therapy, and equality, diversity and inclusion. – with a host of well-known speakers. There will also be a suppliers exhibition and a gala dinner on the evening of 7 October.
Professor Fosbury has interests ranging from the formation of the first stars and galaxies in the Universe more than 13 billion years ago to the current searches for life beyond the Earth. He has worked for the European Space Agency with NASA on the Hubble Telescope, and had early involvement on the James Webb Telescope.
During the last decade, Professor Fosbury has been collaborating with Professor Glen Jeffery at the UCL Institute of Ophthalmology on aspects of light-life interactions, including how different wavelengths may impact cellular function including the retina and age-related macular degeneration. His work suggests wavelengths in the electromagnetic spectrum may have a profound impact on cellular function with health implications for the way we illuminate ourselves and the planet.
The title of Professor Fosbury’s lecture is ‘The impact of near infrared deprivation’.
