In March, over 90 students descended on Alton Towers Resort for a two-day revision event built on the success of the past couple of years. This event was again sponsored by Essilor. There was a great deal to pack into the 2 days – all aspects of the Final Qualifying Exam (FQE) were covered in workshops, lectures and OSCE-style to give a real flavour of the exams themselves.
For the first time this year, we introduced a charity aspect to the revision event. The students had a fun revision picture quiz to complete during their coffee breaks and raffle tickets were on sale for some fabulous donated prizes from Essilor, ABDO NRC and The Clayton Hotel in Birmingham. We raised an amazing £500 for the Down’s Syndrome Association and had a great deal of fun in the process.
Feedback from the students has been positive:
‘A great event which I really enjoyed – would recommend to other TDO’s’
‘the examiners are great – very easy to talk to with questions etc’
‘A really good event in helping to prepare for the exams, it also helped make the examiners seem more normal !! and less scary.’
‘All the examiners were friendly and made an effort to answer all questions. They made me feel very welcoming at all times. All the section lessons were very good and gave me a good insight to the real FQE’s’
‘Brilliant few days, examiners were amazing and made me feel comfortable and more confident for the coming exam’
‘Amazing few days – examiners have been great, taught me loads and instilled me with confidence for my FQE – thank you’
