A OnePoll survey of 2,000 adults, conducted between 14-15 May on behalf of Zeiss Vision Care, has given a snapshot of the impact of the Coronavirus pandemic on people’s attitudes towards their health – and eye health.
Sixty-two per cent of survey respondents said they were now more aware of their overall health compared to before the pandemic. This increased to 81 per cent amongst those who had been diagnosed with Covid-19, or who had experienced symptoms and self-isolated.
Despite this, 65 per cent of respondents stated they felt wary about attending healthcare appointments post lockdown.
Fifty-eight per cent of participants said they would like to see free hand sanitiser available in practices, and 53 per cent wanted equipment to be cleaned before and after use.
However, eye examinations did appear in the top three priorities for people as lockdown measures are eased.
Zeiss Vision Care commented that its range of eyecare technologies could support opticians in adhering to social distancing guidelines.
The range includes the Zeiss Visufit1000 digital centration and dispensing device, which enables opticians to take measurements from a distance of two metres. So far, 10 opticians in the UK have invested in this technology.
