The Worshipful Company of Spectacle Makers (WCSM) has launched its annual competition for bronze medals for research.
The Master’s Medal is awarded for the best first-published research paper in any aspect of vision published in a recognised refereed journal between 1 July 2019 and 30 September 2020 by someone who has not yet achieved a doctorate. This could include research undertaken in the course of product and software development, as well as papers on the causes and effects of vision impairment and new or different therapies and treatments.
The Ruskell Medal is open to entrants at any stage of their research career and is intended to reward ground-breaking scientific research. Again, papers must have been accepted for publication between 1 July 2019 and 30 September 2020.
Both medals are accompanied by a purse of £750.
All papers will be assessed by the WCSM’s Professorial Committee – and it is hoped that the winners will be able to receive their medals at a Company Lunch in Apothecaries’ Hall, London, in December.
