The Worshipful Company of Spectacle Makers (WCSM) has committed to support ABDO’s award-winning Careers in Eyecare campaign.
Commenting on the move – announced during National Careers Week – the chair of the WCSM Membership Committee, Fiona Anderson, said: “The WCSM wants to inspire future generations committed to visionary eyecare, building upon a rich heritage of almost 400 years so it makes perfect sense for the WCSM to support the Careers in Eyecare campaign.”
Young people, parents and carers, employers and careers teachers will now be getting information and updates on relevant WCSM activities via the Careers in Eyecare website at www.careersineyecare.org.uk as well as on social media.
Fiona added: “Initiatives such as the WCSM Journeyman scheme for young people and those in the early stages of their optical career make WCSM and Careers in Eyecare great partners. We support Careers in Eyecare’s work towards bringing more young people into a range of optical careers and professions. Working alongside Careers in Eyecare, the WCSM is keen to support those who are entering careers in eyecare and eyewear.”
Antonia Chitty, ABDO head of communications and IT, commented: “We are excited to be working with the WCSM to highlight all the different ways people can work to improve vision and save sight. It is an exciting time to be reaching out to young people and those thinking of changing career, and showing them all the options open to them. There are plenty of entry level opportunities and a solid career pathway, ensuring everyone who enters the world of eyecare can develop their skills, achieve qualifications, and reach their full potential.”
